Sony UK & Ireland: 2018 Trade Show

The Brief

Sony UK has been making waves in recent years – particularly in the imaging, television and film markets where Sony has been able to put it’s enormous corporate strength behind all of its offerings.

It’s this enormous capability that was a real feature of the annual Sony UK & Ireland trade show at Sony Europe’s headquarters in Surrey.

At a not insignificant cost of £235k and 1150 man hours over 153 days, it’s far to say that this event is a pretty big deal in the Sony calendar. The event is very exclusive, with only 613 delegates attending the event over the two days – with day one largely made up of Sony employees from around the world.

The brief was to capture all elements of the event and to create a highlights video for internal use. This video needed to emphasise the sheer scale of the event and marry together all of the individual divisions of Sony to show the diversity of the band and capabilities.

The Solution

Due to the nature of event coverage, we had to use a very lightweight and flexible setup to allow us to move from room to room and not be too heavily weighed down by the equipment limitations.

We shot with two camera operators on different stabilisers and with different focal lengths. During pre-production, we identified roles for each camera operator in order to ensure that all elements of the event was covered. This also dictated the choice of lenses and stabiliser for each operator.

Playing with dynamics, we incorporated movement into each and every shot. This was then emphasised during the editing phase where speed ramps were used throughout to inject some pace into the final video and better align the visuals with soundtrack – provided by The Chainsmokers.
